About Me & Evolution

My name is Kara, and I am currently majoring in Biology with a minor in Microbiology. I am wanting to pursue medicine at OSU's medical school in Tulsa!

I have a huge passion and love for music and movies. My favorite past times are watching movies, or going to concerts! I've really gotten into logging in and reviewing all the movies I watch on an app called Letterboxd. It has become my favorite social media honestly. Concerts are probably my favorite thing to do or spend money on. The most recent shows I have been to are Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Ravi, and Crown the Empire. I'm mostly looking forward to seeing Mark Tuan in October, he is a member of my favorite K-Pop group GOT7. I'll attach videos of all these artists down below at the end of the post! 

One thing from the course materials this week in Evolution that I did not know previously is the "Earth's Entire History" video. I had no idea how much time has passed on this planet, and how closely the time of dinosaurs is to our present day! It was crazy to see. We think dinosaurs lived so long ago, but when things are put into perspective like in that video you can see visually how it isn't as long ago as we perceive it to be!

    Hi Kara! I love your post about your love for music. I also went to the Dua Lipa concert, I'm sad I missed Justin Bieber :( I also thought the same thing about how long Earth's history is compared to our time here!

      The Dua Lipa concert was so much fun, I'm glad you got to enjoy it! You have to see Justin the next time he comes to Oklahoma! Hopefully he won't wait 6 years for his next tour like he did last time!

    Hey Kara! I am also wanting to pursue medical school at OSU Tulsa! I love that you are minoring in Microbiology, that subject has so many confusing parts to it which makes it so interesting and awesome! Do you know what specialty you are wanting to pursue yet?

      Hi Mel, I am hoping to specialize in dermatology, but I am keeping an open mind about it because it can always change once we get to rotations!

1.) A great example of convergence from the "Improbably Destinies" Chapter 1 was the example of caffeine-producing species. 2.) Sexual Selection

Sexual selection typically acts on males of the species due to male-to-male competition. I learned a lot in our in-class activity about sexual selection, especially with the comic strip we went over. I didn't think there could be a variation of successful mating strategies, it just depended on the situation! I would like to further explore the topic of female choice in sexual selection.
